We’re updating how we determine your Safety Score, including changes to what we define as hard acceleration, hard braking, speeding. We’ll also consider night-time driving when determining your score. These changes will take effect at your next policy renewal.
Hard acceleration and hard braking events will count only if they begin at speeds of 10 mph or higher. Events that begin below 10 mph will not count.
We’ll use defined speed thresholds based on the road’s posted speed limit. Your speed must meet or exceed the applicable threshold continuously for the time shown below to count as a speeding event.

No. Under these rules, driving 1 mph above the posted speed limit does not meet the speed threshold required for a speeding event.
Night-time driving is driving between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., using the time zone of the state where your trip begins. We’re adding nighttime driving to the behaviors considered in your Safety Score, but capping the nighttime miles counted at a maximum of 10% of your total scored miles.
We’re changing how acceleration, braking, and speeding are evaluated, and now capture nighttime driving. As a result, the same driving behavior may produce a different score under the updated model.
The updated Safety Score will appear in your Novo mobile app depending on your plan. If you are enrolled in our Next or Classic plans, you’ll see the updated score immediately; if you are in our Flex plan, you’ll see the updated score right before your upcoming renewal.
Not necessarily. Your Safety Score and any applicable Connectivity Discount are part of your renewal pricing, but they do not determine your premium on their own. Your renewal documents will show the premium that applies to your next policy term.
Contact Novo Customer Service at 866-862-7757 or support@novo.us for questions about the updated Safety Score.
Keep the Novo app’s required permissions enabled, including location access, and keep your phone paired with your vehicle’s Bluetooth. Each participating driver on your policy should maintain these settings so the app can record their trips.
Your renewal documents will show any applicable Connectivity Discount for your next policy term.
The Connectivity Discount replaces the New Business NSP Participation Discount, which applies during your first policy term. The new discount gives eligible customers an opportunity to receive a discount of up to 5% at renewal.
The change will take effect at your next policy renewal. Your renewal documents, which you’ll receive before your policy renews, will show any applicable discount.
The amount depends on how consistently eligible drivers on your policy stay connected during the evaluation period and how recently their trips have been recorded. The discount considers the eligible drivers on your policy together, rather than just one driver’s participation. Meeting the program requirements does not automatically mean you’ll receive the full 5% discount.
Contact Novo Customer Service at 866-862-7757 or support@novo.us for questions about the discount or help with your app settings.
